Sahiwal Coal Power Project: Power Division seeks details on expensive coal purchase

Officials purchase coal as per CPPA as per NEPRA guidelines and submit coal purchase and electricity cost to NEPRA every month.

Power Division has sought details on the issue of buying expensive coal for Sahiwal Coal Power Project.

According to Jang news, the Power Division has sought details from the Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPA) on the issue of expensive coal purchase.

In the light of the directive of the former power minister, the power division has asked for details on the complaint related to buying expensive coal and putting additional burden on electricity consumers.

According to the daily Jang newspaper report, the former caretaker energy minister had ordered an investigation into the issue of non-transparency in the selection of coal suppliers.

Complaints were raised before the former energy minister about the increase in burden on electricity consumers due to the purchase of expensive coal.

It should be noted that officials purchase coal as per CPPA as per NEPRA guidelines and submit coal purchase and electricity cost to NEPRA every month.

Sahiwal coal power plant location

The Sahiwal Coal Power Project is a coal power plant project located near Qadirabad Adda of Sahiwal city in the province of Punjab in Pakistan by the name of Huaneng Shandong Ruyi Energy. It has an installed capacity of 1320 MW. It commenced full operations on 3 July 2017.

The land around it still fertile and it is called environment friendly project. However some of the doctors say it is casting bad impact on environment.

It should be noted that Qadirabad is the place where “Saniha Sahiwal” or “Sahiwal Tragedy happened. In that shooting incident CTD police killed innocent family.
