Forest Department organizes a plantation ceremony at Chichawatani Forest Park
Chichawatni Forest commonly known as Chichawatni Jungle is more than 100 years old.
Chichawatni Forest Department organizes a grand plantation ceremony at Chichawatani Forest Park on the occasion of World Forest Day.
Hundreds of students from local schools and colleges planted more than 72 thousand saplings in the ceremony.
Commissioner Sahiwal Division Shoaib Iqbal Syed was the chief guest of the ceremony while Additional Commissioner Coordination Shafiq Ahmed Dogar, Divisional Forest Officer Malik Waseem Sajjad, other officers of the Forest Department and a large number of citizens were also present in the ceremony.
Commissioner Shoaib Iqbal Syed highlighted the importance of trees in his address on the occasion and said that trees are very important for human survival which provide us with oxygen, fuel, shade and valuable wood.
He said that the world is facing a serious problem like global warming, which is the only solution to deal with it by planting trees.
He said that the Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz announced the “Plant for Pakistan” campaign in view of the importance of trees as soon as she took over the government.
The students of schools and colleges should also participate so that the new generation could also be aware of the importance of trees.
On this occasion, Divisional Forest Officer Malik Waseem Sajjad said that the Forest Department is providing saplings to the people from the government nurseries at cheap rates so that the people can also actively participate in this national campaign and do their part in removing the shortage of trees in the country. Later, Commissioner Shoaib Iqbal Syed along with students planted saplings on 100 acres.
