During a press briefing, US state department spokesperson matthew miller expressed solidarity with pakistan in its ongoing struggle against terrorism and violence.

He reaffirmed the United States’ commitment to supporting Pakistan’s counterterrorism efforts.

“We condemn these and all terrorist attacks,” Miller stated.

“The Pakistani people have endured significant suffering at the hands of violent extremists, and our thoughts are with the families of those affected by these recent tragedies.”

Miller further emphasized the strength of the US-Pakistan counterterrorism partnership, which includes ongoing consultations and dialogues aimed at enhancing both civilian and military capabilities to detect and counter militant threats.

“We remain committed to working closely with the Pakistani government to build capacity for preventing and responding to terrorism,” Miller added, underscoring the importance of strengthening cooperation on both sides.

Regarding the involvement of militant groups based in Afghanistan, Miller highlighted the need for bilateral cooperation to address the cross-border challenges.

However, he refrained from commenting on specific actions against terrorist hideouts in Kabul.

The jirga (tribal council) intervened and rescued the officers without paying any ransom.

The attackers had seized the Rocha checkpost in the Ahmedzai subdivision of Bannu.

This incident follows a troubling rise in violence against law enforcement agencies, particularly in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) and Balochistan.

Just weeks earlier, a police constable was abducted from his home in Bannu’s Bakakhel Police Station jurisdiction.

The Centre for Research and Security Studies (CRSS) reported a staggering 90% increase in fatalities related to terrorist violence in the third quarter of 2024.

The report revealed 722 deaths and 615 injuries in 328 incidents, with KP and Balochistan bearing the brunt of the violence.

The report also highlighted the persistent threat posed by militant groups exploiting the porous border between Pakistan and Afghanistan, despite the Taliban’s promises to curb cross-border terrorism.

US officials acknowledged these challenges and stressed the continued need for close cooperation to address the growing security concerns in the region.

Miller concluded by reaffirming the US’s dedication to the bilateral counterterrorism partnership, noting that high-level dialogues would continue as part of efforts to bolster Pakistan’s security against extremist threats.
