Saim Ayub Injured During Second South Africa Test

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is expected to provide an update on his condition soon.

Pakistan’s left-handed opener, Saim Ayub, was forced off the field after suffering an ankle injury during the second Test against South Africa on Friday.

The injury occurred in the opening session of Day 1 at Newlands, Cape Town.

In the seventh over, a delivery from Mohammad Abbas was guided by Ryan Rickelton to the third-wicket area.

As Aamir Jamal retrieved the ball from deep third-man, Ayub sprinted to relay it but lost his balance, stumbling backward and injuring his right ankle.

Ayub received immediate medical attention before being sent to a nearby hospital for further evaluation.

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is expected to provide an update on his condition soon.

Though the severity of the injury is still unclear, it poses a significant concern for Pakistan, who have a busy schedule ahead, including a Test series against West Indies, a tri-nation ODI series, and the upcoming ICC Men’s Champions Trophy 2025.

Ayub, who has been in stellar form, recently won the Player of the Series award in South Africa’s ODIs and was also nominated for the ICC Emerging Cricketer of the Year award.

His contributions in both ODIs and T20Is have made him a key player for Pakistan across formats.
