Rickelton’s 213 Leads South Africa to 429-5 Against Pakistan

Rickelton's overnight partner, David Bedingham, was dismissed for five, caught by wicketkeeper Mohammad Rizwan off Mohammad Abbas (2-70).

Ryan Rickelton’s unbeaten 213 guided South Africa to 429 for five at lunch on day two of the second Test against Pakistan at Newlands, with South Africa in a dominant position.

The 28-year-old makeshift opener, filling in for the injured Tony de Zorzi, achieved his highest first-class score and continued his strong performance from the first day.

Rickelton, who resumed the day on 176, handled Pakistan’s second new ball with ease, while Kyle Verreynne supported him with a rapid 74 from 88 balls. The duo added 106 for the sixth wicket in 23.2 overs.

Rickelton’s overnight partner, David Bedingham, was dismissed for five, caught by wicketkeeper Mohammad Rizwan off Mohammad Abbas (2-70).

The pair had earlier added 235 runs for the fourth wicket on the opening day, with Rickelton appearing in total control on a pitch favorable for batting, though it is expected to deteriorate under the heat.

Pakistan’s troubles deepened with the loss of Saim Ayub, who suffered an ankle fracture while fielding, leaving the tourists with just nine wickets for their batting innings.

Ayub is set to miss up to six weeks of action, raising doubts about his availability for Pakistan’s ICC Champions Trophy squad.

With South Africa already secured a spot in the World Test Championship final at Lord’s, they aim for a 2-0 series victory, having won a thrilling first Test by two wickets in Pretoria.
