PICIIP approves reconstruction of 8 roads in Sahiwal

Punjab Intermediate Cities Improvement Investment Programme (PICIIP) approves reconstruction of 8 more important roads of Sahiwal city.

These roads will be completed under the Punjab Intermediate Cities Improvement Investment Programme (PICIIP) for which the initial cost estimate has been fixed at 1 billion 43 crore and 18 lacs.

This approval was given by Hamza Salik, Provincial Program Director of (PICIIP). Commissioner Sahiwal Shoaib Iqbal Syed expressed his satisfaction on the approval of these important roads of the city and directed the highway department to complete PC1 of all the roads within a week to get official approval from the planning and development department.

While giving the details of the projects approved by Director Hamza Salik, City Manager PICIIP Muhammad Asjad Khan said that Rs 39.19 million was spent on doubling Girls College Road from Mission Chowk to Bhatta Petrol Pump and reconstruction of Faridia Park Road.

He further said that 9 crore 64 lakh 72 thousand rupees have been estimated for the Church Road, while 24 crore 42 lakh 41 thousand rupees have been estimated for the railway road (from Jogi Chowk to Railway Station).

Similarly, for doubling Liaquat Road (from Five Ways Chowk to Tanki Chowk) 12 crore 32 lakh rupees will be spent, while for Gulistan Road (from Railway Road to Ali Masjid and Nadra Office Chowk) 12 crore 67 lakh 26 thousand rupees will be spent.

For the construction and repair of all the internal roads of the sports complex, 15 crore 90 lakh 77 thousand rupees, while the jail road (from DC office to Azan Heights via Central Jail and Police Line) has been estimated at 12 crore 30 lakh rupees.

Reconstruction of Midhali Road to Noor shah Road Link (Pak Avenue Colony) will cost Rs 16 crore 71 lakh 83 thousand.

He further informed that the work of reconstruction of 5 important roads of the city under the PCIIP program has already started, which include the reconstruction of Fateh Sher Road, High Street, Allama Iqbal Road, Farid Town Road and College Road.

About PICIIP Government of the Punjab is implementing Punjab Intermediate Cities Improvement Investment Programme (PICIIP) in intermediate districts including Sahiwal, Sialkot, Sargodha, Bahawalpur, Rahim Yar Khan, Multan, DG Khan, Bahawalpur and Muzaffargarh with financial assistance of The Asian Development Bank (ADB).

PICIIP aims to improve the efficiency and financial sustainability of intermediate cities and effectiveness of urban services through water supply, sanitation, Sewerage system, sewage treatment, solid waste management, transport infrastructure and up gradation of Punjab Local Government Academy Lalamusa and capacity development program.
