Paul Mescal Praises ‘Wicked’ Stars Ariana Grande & Cynthia Erivo

As Lucius is compelled to enter the Colosseum, he faces the challenge of bringing glory back to Rome.

Paul Mescal has lavished praise on Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo for their remarkable performances in the highly anticipated film adaptation of Wicked.

In a recent interview with Attitude, the Normal People actor shared his admiration, saying, “I had the chance to briefly meet Cynthia and Ariana at the Academy Gala, and I’ve also seen the film.

I think they’re both extraordinary.” The 28-year-old also revealed his personal connection to the world of musical theatre, expressing, “I’m a big advocate for that film.”

Directed by Jon M. Chu, Wicked made its debut on the same day as the Gladiator II sequel, creating a cinematic event of its own.

Reflecting on the Wicked phenomenon, Mescal remarked, “Call it whatever you want—Barbenheimer was a brilliant moment for cinema.

If we can draw people into theaters for both films, it’s not just beneficial for us, but also for the film industry as a whole.” He added, “So, if you love cinema, make sure to support it.”

As for his role in Gladiator II, Mescal plays Lucius, now an adult, who was once a witness to the death of Maximus (Russell Crowe) at the hands of his uncle, Commodus (Joaquin Phoenix).

As Lucius is compelled to enter the Colosseum, he faces the challenge of bringing glory back to Rome.

In Wicked, Erivo stars as Elphaba, the misunderstood Wicked Witch of the West, and Grande portrays Glinda, the Good Witch.

The two characters form an unlikely bond at Shiz University while navigating their interactions with the Wizard of Oz, played by Jeff Goldblum.

Both films are enjoying strong box office performances, with Wicked securing a $164.2 million global opening, while Gladiator II earned $221 million, according to Deadline.
