Isak, Joelinton Shine in 2-0 Win, Extending Man United’s Streak
With just two wins in nine league games, United are sitting 14th, only seven points above the relegation zone.
Newcastle United handed Manchester United their fourth consecutive loss on Monday with a 2-0 victory at Old Trafford, as Alexander Isak and Joelinton struck early.
In the first 19 minutes, Isak headed in Lewis Hall’s cross to give Newcastle the lead. The goal marked Isak’s sixth consecutive Premier League goal.
Just moments later, Joelinton scored a towering header from Anthony Gordon’s cross, doubling the visitors’ advantage.
The result capped a miserable end to 2024 for Manchester United, whose manager, Ruben Amorim, is under intense pressure.
With just two wins in nine league games, United are sitting 14th, only seven points above the relegation zone.
Amorim looked on in disbelief as Newcastle dominated, with United struggling without their suspended captain Bruno Fernandes.
The Magpies’ midfield trio of Sandro Tonali, Bruno Guimaraes, and Joelinton easily bypassed Casemiro and Christian Eriksen.
Isak missed a chance to extend the lead, misjudging a dinked shot over Andre Onana and having a goal ruled offside. Despite this, Newcastle continued to press, and Joelinton’s header made it 2-0.
Amorim made an early substitution, replacing Joshua Zirkzee with Kobbie Mainoo in the 33rd minute, which was met with a frustrated response from the Old Trafford crowd.
Newcastle could have added a third when Tonali hit the post, but United nearly found a way back into the game before halftime.
With the victory, Newcastle moved up to fifth, while Manchester United’s woes continue, with Amorim’s future uncertain.
