Pakistan Army Rejects Deal Despite Imran Khan’s Wish: The Guardian
The Guardian sent its questions to Imran Khan through his legal team.
British newspaper The Guardian has claimed in an article that despite the wishes of imprisoned Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan, Pakistan Army has no intention of entering into any deal.
According to British newspaper The Guardian, senior military sources stated that the army has no plans to engage in any negotiations or deals with Imran Khan, even though he had expressed a desire for talks with the military leadership from jail.
The Guardian report also mentioned that journalists are barred from meeting Imran Khan in Adiala Jail. However, The Guardian sent its questions to him through his legal team.
In response to the questions, Imran Khan stated that he has had no direct meetings with the military since his imprisonment last August.
However, he said that despite accusing the military of involvement in ousting his government and incarcerating him, a deal with Pakistan’s powerful military establishment cannot be ruled out.
Imran Khan told the British newspaper that any meeting with Pak Army leadership regarding a deal would be based on principles and public interest. He clarified that it would not be for personal benefit or compromises that could undermine Pakistan’s democratic values.
“I would rather spend my entire life in jail than compromise on my principles,” Imran Khan said.
Regarding the possibility of being tried in a military court, the PTI founder Imran Khan questioned, “How can a civilian, especially a former prime minister, be tried in a military court? This would be absurd.”
Imran Khan added, “The only reason for a civilian’s trial in a military court could be that no other court would convict me. Such a decision would be dangerous.”
Rejecting the government’s claims about providing facilities in jail, he said, “I have been placed in conditions designed to instill fear, isolate me, and break my resolve.”
PTI founder mentioned that meetings with him have been restricted, there is no electricity in his cell, he has no access to exercise for 24 hours, and he is deprived of basic freedoms.
Imran Khan added that banning journalists from meeting him or restricting coverage of his trial raises serious questions about transparency.
The PTI founder expressed hope for justice and confidence that he would once again become the prime minister with the support of the people.
