I didn’t want to manipulate situations or get too serious about anything," he explained.
Gabriel Macht reflects on how playing Harvey Specter in Suits changed him and why he chose to step away from the role.
The American actor, known for his portrayal of the sharp-witted, high-powered lawyer Harvey Specter.
Admitted that after almost a decade of embodying the character, he started to carry elements of Harvey’s personality into his own life.
In a candid interview with E! News, Gabriel shared that initially, he felt quite different from Specter. “I was more laid-back, less confrontational.
I didn’t want to manipulate situations or get too serious about anything,” he explained.
However, as the show progressed, Gabriel found himself becoming more like the character he portrayed.
He confessed, “I became a lot more like Harvey than I was when I started. That’s another reason why I needed time away—to let Harvey go back to where he came from.”
By the time Suits reached its sixth season, Gabriel’s family began to notice the shift. His brother even questioned whether he was becoming too similar to the role he had played for years.
When the series wrapped up in 2019, Gabriel saw it as a chance to shed the persona of Harvey Specter for good and return to himself.
“I needed to step away and reconnect with who I really am,” he added.
For Gabriel, saying goodbye to Harvey wasn’t just about leaving a show; it was about reclaiming his personal identity after years of fully immersing himself in a character that had become a part of him.
