Petition Against Army Chief’s Tenure Extension Set for Hearing
A seven-member bench, headed by Justice Aminuddin Khan, will hear the case on November 20.
The petition challenging the extension of the Army Chief’s tenure has been scheduled for a hearing before a constitutional bench.
According to the Express Newspaper, the Supreme Court’s constitutional bench has set a date for the hearing of the petition against the Army Chief’s tenure extension. A seven-member bench, headed by Justice Aminuddin Khan, will hear the case on November 20.
The petition against the extension of the Army Chief’s tenure was filed by Mehmood Akhtar Naqvi.
It is worth noting that the federal cabinet had approved extending the service tenure of service chiefs to five years.
During a meeting chaired by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, the cabinet also approved presenting a bill in parliament to amend the Army Act. This amendment allows all service chiefs to have their tenures extended to five years.
Subsequently, the National Assembly and Senate passed the bill extending the tenure of service chiefs with a majority vote.
The extension is criticized by PTI and Imran Khan as they think that the Army Chief General Asim Munir is directly involved in stealing PTI mandate. He is the reason of all troubles PTI facing today.
