2024: Domestic Debt Rises by 710B Rupees, Foreign Debt Falls

Lahore (Sahiwal Updates) The federal government’s reliance on debt remained steady in 2024. The total increase in the central government’s debt this year was 3,919 billion rupees.

According to documents from the State Bank of Pakistan, the federal government’s domestic debt increased by 4,632 billion rupees in 2024, while foreign debt reduced by 710 billion rupees.

As of October 2024, available government debt data shows the total government debt stood at 69,114 billion rupees, though data for government debt for November and December 2024 is yet to be released.

According to the State Bank’s documents, by October 2024, the federal government’s domestic debt was 47,231 billion rupees and its foreign debt was 21,884 billion rupees.

The documents further show that in December 2023, the federal government’s debt was 65,195 billion rupees, with domestic debt at 42,595 billion rupees and foreign debt at 22,600 billion rupees.
