Comsats University Sahiwal holds Convocation 2023 Ceremony

Comsats University Islamabad, Sahiwal Campus has launched PhD programs which is a major milestone for the region. This was said by Director COMSATS Sahiwal Professor Dr. Nazir Ahmad Zafar while addressing the Convocation 2023 of the University.

The chief guest of the ceremony was Dr. Inam ur Rehman (Hilal-e-Imtiaz, Stara-Imtiaz, Aizaz-e-Kamal) while Rector CUI Prof. Dr. Qamar Sajjad and Director CUI, Sahiwal Campus Prof. Dr. Nazir Ahmed Zafar were the guests of honor.

Members Senate, Syndicate, Academic Council, Deans, Directors, Principal Officers, Controller of Examinations, Registrar Comsats University, political and social personalities, media representatives, students along with their parents participated in large numbers in the convocation.

In the convocation, 393 male and 262 female students were awarded degrees in the departments of Computer Science, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical and Computer Engineering, Civil Engineering, Biosciences, Mathematics and Management Sciences, including 546 BS graduates and 109 MS graduates. While 29 students were awarded with gold, browns and silver medals, including 8 male and 21 female students.

Chief Guest Dr. Inamur Rehman (Hilal-e-Imtiaz, Satara-e-Imtiaz, Aizaz-i-Kamal) while addressing the audience said that the recently established Comsats University Islamabad, Sahiwal Campus has become a wonderful campus in a short period of time.

The campus environment, surrounding greenery, flower gardens and magnificent buildings all create a charming effect. It is an ideal pleasant environment that each of us would love to have while working, researching and studying. The beaming faces of the students tell the inner story of his academic prowess.

Guest of Honor Rector COMSATS University Islamabad Professor Dr. Sajid Qamar said that COMSATS University Islamabad was established in 1998 as COMSATS Institute of Information Technology and was granted a degree awarding charter by the Federal Government in August 2000.

In a short span of two decades, CUI has fully operationalized virtual campuses in Islamabad, Abbottabad, Wah, Lahore, Attock, Sahiwal, Wehari and one virtual campus while more domestic and foreign campuses are under consideration which are in line with the vision of Comsats and Evidence of mission commitment.

Addressing the convocation, Director CUI, Sahiwal Campus Prof. Dr. Nazir Ahmad Zafar said that CUI, Sahiwal was established in December 2006 and Alhamdulillah, today we have presented this campus as a great success. It has come a long way.

Our campus is spread over an area of 36 acres, which will be increased soon, God willing. About 3,400 students are enrolled in 18 graduate and undergraduate programs in the fields of management sciences, computer science, biosciences, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, civil engineering, mathematics, and humanities.

Today, 655 students have been awarded degrees, of which more than 40 percent are female graduates. So far more than 7000 students have graduated from this campus. These graduates would not have achieved this milestone without the existence of this campus.

Certainly, the credit goes to CUI management and former Minister for Science and Technology and former Chancellor of CIIT, Chaudhry Noraiz Shakoor Khan. He said that he is happy to inform that 4 PhD programs have been started this year.

Starting a PhD program in a small town and attaining the highest academic qualifications is a boon for the local people, especially for female students who are unable to continue their studies due to cultural and social barriers.
