British Foreign Secretary David Lammy addressed concerns regarding this possibility in a response to a letter from MP Kim Johnson.

The letter, written at the request of Zulfi Bukhari, the PTI founder’s advisor on international affairs, raised questions about the implications of judicial changes in Pakistan following the approval of the 26th constitutional amendment. The letter was co-signed by 20 members of parliament from various political parties.

In his response, David Lammy confirmed that Pakistani authorities have not indicated any plans to prosecute the PTI founder Imran Khan in a military court. However, he noted that the situation remains under observation.

Lammy emphasized that while judicial proceedings are an internal matter for Pakistan, it is critical to uphold international commitments to fundamental freedoms.

He highlighted ongoing concerns regarding political opposition, freedom of speech, and the right to peaceful assembly in Pakistan.

This clarification comes amid growing scrutiny of Pakistan’s judicial and political processes on the international stage.

The UK reiterated its commitment to monitoring the situation closely and engaging with Pakistani authorities to ensure respect for human rights and the rule of law.
