The latest beta release of WhatsApp introduces a handy feature, enabling users to perform reverse image searches directly within the app using Google.
This addition makes it easier for users to check the authenticity or origins of an image received on WhatsApp.
Google’s reverse image search has been available for some time and is an essential tool for verifying images.
It helps users find related information about an image and discover whether it’s original or has appeared on other websites or social media platforms.
According to WAB eta Info, this new feature is available in WhatsApp beta version 2.24.23.13, accessible via the Google Play Store for those enrolled in the beta program.
To use the feature, users can view an image in WhatsApp, tap the three-dot menu at the top, and select “search on web.”
This option sends the image to Google’s reverse image search through a direct integration with Google, making verification quick and seamless.
WhatsApp clarifies that this action only shares the image with Google and does not involve Meta or any other third-party platforms, ensuring user privacy.
While Google’s Circle to Search already allows reverse image searches, WhatsApp’s in-app functionality simplifies the process, especially for users who may not have Circle to Search or want a faster way to verify images.
As of now, the feature appears to be rolling out gradually on WhatsApp’s servers, meaning that some beta users may not see it immediately.
However, the rollout is expanding, and more users should have access to the “search on web” function soon.
