At least one person has been killed while dozens are injured in firing in Bannu Aman March when protesters approached Bannu Cantt.
After the recent incidents of terrorism, a ‘peace march’ was organized in Bannu area of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa today. Meanwhile, protesters marching towards Bannu Cantt were fired upon, in which 26 people were reportedly injured.
“They shouted slogans against the army and some started throwing stones at the installation’s wall,” an intelligence official in the nearby city of Peshawar told AFP on condition of anonymity. As a result, the army fired in the air, leading to a stampede.
Provincial Public Health Minister Pakhtun Yar has accused the Pak army of firing in his statement.
“During the rally, direct shots were fired at me and people standing near me,” Pakhtun yar told AFP. It was not just firing in the air, it was aimed at killing us.”
Today was the first “peace rally” of the “Aman Pasoon” series, in which the protestors were chanting “We want peace”. Although the leading position in this rally belongs to Pashtun Tahafuz Movement (PTM), it includes the workers of almost all local political parties, business class and representatives of civil society.
Opposition parties are blaming PTI to make the situation worse while Facebook is partially banned in Pakistan and users are unable to access images and videos.
